PDS Dress Code
General Guidelines for All Classes
All dancers are required to strictly adhere to the Phoenix Dance Studio dress code. Dancers WILL NOT BE ADMITTED to any dance class without the proper dancewear uniform and footwear.
Dancewear and footwear may be purchased in our Phoenix Dance Supply boutique. Please bring thin socks or tights to try on footwear. The PDS boutique does not carry pointe shoes.
For health reasons, dancers are not permitted to wear street shoes in class. Dance shoes should be worn in the studio only and should not be worn to and from class. Please do not allow your child to wear dance shoes outside of the studio.
Female dancers must wear their hair in a bun or secure and neat ponytail to all classes.
No jewelry in classes.
Please observe the chart below for the appropriate dance and foot wear per style of class.
Combo 1, 2 & 3
Any color leotard and tights are permitted for this class. If your child wears tights to class, please make sure tights can come off the feet for the acrobatics portion of the combo class. If you wish, a tutu, skirt, and shorts over leotard are allowed as well. For young boys, please wear gym shorts and shirts, no streetwear. Students will wear ballet and tap shoes. Pink leather or canvas ballet shoes and black tap shoes are necessary for this class. Classes will start with tap, then ballet and end in Acro. Time permitting PDS teachers or teachers assistant's will help dancers switch from tap shoes to their ballet shoes.
Starting at age 6, uniform for this class will be in full effect. A black leotard, pink convertible tights, and pink leather or canvas ballet shoes must be worn. Hair must be in a slicked-back ballet bun, intact with hairpins. The flatter the bun is to the dancer’s head the better. Boys wear shorts or pants with black ballet shoes and black or white form fitted ticked in white T-shirt or athletic shirt, no wording on shirts. No accessories, including smartwatches.
Black leotard, pink tights, and pointe shoes of dancer/instructors choice. Hair must be in a slicked-back ballet bun, intact with hairpins.
Any color leotard is required for this class. Spandex accompanied with the leotard is recommended. Jazz shoes/boots must be worn. Hair must be up and out of the dancer’s face. Boys wear any colored form-fitted athletic shirt or t-shirt, and shorts, with jazz shoes.
Any color leotard is required for this class. Spandex, athletic shorts, or leggings accompanied with the leotard is recommended. If you wish, a shirt is permitted to be worn over the leotard for this class. Black lace-up tap shoes are needed for this class. Hair must be up and out of the dancer’s face. Boys wear any colored t-shirt and shorts with black lace-up tap shoes.
Any colored leotard must be worn accompanied with spandex shorts and/or leggings. Hair is to be worn up and out of the face, ponytails are not recommended. Boys wear any colored athletic shorts with a form-fitted athletic shirt. No shoes required.
Any colored leotard is required for these classes. Spandex and/or leggings accompanied with the leotard is recommended. Hair needs to be pulled back and out of the face. Foot undies, bare claws, or bare feet are allowed in these classes. Boys wear any colored form-fitted athletic shirt and shorts.
Hip Hop/Jazz Funk
A leotard is not necessary for these classes. Loose fitted clothing is allowed, however, no street clothes: jeans, denim shorts, graphic t-shirts. Sneakers are needed for these classes, but please do not wear dirty/muddy shoes to class. Hair can be up or down but pulled back away from the face.
