WISH PROJECT

The Phoenix Dance Studio Wish Project was inspired by our successful Adaptive Dance program and Partnership with Phoenix Children’s Hospital for children with neurological and physical disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, congenital deformities or severe accidental injury. PDS has partnered with experts in the field to create a workshop that offers children of all abilities the chance to move… to dance… and to go beyond what they BELIEVE possible. Utilizing PDS’s unique pedagogy and the expertise of a PDS Teaching Artist team, this class series workshop enhances the abilities of learners with special needs through dance, live music, and performance. In this program, children with disabilities are paired with typically developing peers to maximize participation. Dancers work together under the guidance of PDS Teaching Artists and physical therapists to master choreography and gain partnership and performance skills, working toward functional goals within a joyful, rigorous, and supportive group dynamic.

Wish Programs are designed to include all children regardless of ability or financial resources.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Ages: JUNIOR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL
Phoenix Dance Studio will collaborate with a community engagement initiative, which provides dance classes within a students identified within Phoenix Title I schools. In-School Program recognizes within Phoenix Title I schools, there is a demand to provide full scholarships to engage in students in the power of dance training outside of school. Children from all corners of Phoenix come together to work as an ensemble, celebrating each other’s achievements and forming a lifelong bond. Phoenix Dance Studio’s continuum scholarship program will provide advanced training to include the SWAT team and the Believe Team.

SWAT TEAM
Ages: JUNIOR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL
Phoenix Dance Studio SWAT Team (Students Winning Attitudes
Team) is composed of over 25 students invited from Phoenix Dance Studio’s In-School Program each year. Students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding focus, dedication, willingness to try, leadership, joy, and love for dance are invited to join PDS’s SWAT Team. SWAT dancers gather for intensive instruction and learn complex choreography and participate in the various events, and programs delivering a performance featuring original choreography, hard work, dedication, and their raw talents inviting them to be on the PDS’s SWAT Team.

ADAPTIVE DANCE
AGES: ALL AGES
Phoenix Dance Studio Adaptive Dance Class gives young children with disabilities the opportunity to develop social, emotional, and physical skills in a safe environment through the discipline of dance. This is much more than just about learning dance steps, the skills learned will enable students to be successful in the future. Our programs improve focus, listening skills, discipline, social abilities, physicality, and ultimately self-confidence that leads to success in school and opens more opportunities later in life.
